French eating habits on Canal+.

A 90-minute documentary made by Philippe Borrel on “French eating habits” will be broadcast in September 2008 on Canal+. In this documentary, Périco Legas, a well-known food critic and journalist, is interviewed in a sequence filmed on 20 March at the Rungis poultry pavilion.
As the journalist says, “>Food should be the first concern of the French because it is a vital, biological act, a civic, cultural and political act. Consumers understand today that food is linked to health and life, especially as we live in a country that has a real culinary, gastronomic heritage, which should be listed as a world heritage. Consumers are truly more aware of the quality of their food now, because the alliance between mass distribution and the food industry relayed by advertising caused serious damage in this area. A good diet demands a bit of time finding good fresh produce, which can be found in retail shops. We can eat well without spending a fortune. Rungis is the showcase for food and culture and we have to support it, because the day Rungis disappears, everything will go through the central purchasing agencies and there will no longer be this bond between the producer, the retailer, the restaurant owners and the consumer. Long life to Rungis!”
