RRungis sponsors the 1st Paris/Ile-de-France regional food innovation competition

Because tomorrow’s food challenges are to produce safe, healthy, practical and enjoyable foods in an economical, sustainable way, Cervia is organizing the 1st Paris/Ile-de-France regional food innovation competition, sponsored by Semmaris. The companies of Rungis Market are invited to sign up massively.
Agro ParisTech (active member of Cervia), NutriMarketing and ISHA (Institut Scientifique d’Hygiène et d’Analyse) proposed the methodology for evaluating the products. They are organizing the implementation of the competition so they will be its evaluation committee. The competition is open to all farm, crafts and food processing businesses with a production site located in Ile-de-France. For project bearers (company founders), the files will be examined on a case-by-case basis by the organizing committee. Entry to the competition is free and the deadline set for sending entry files to Cervia is 30 April 2008.
Innovation clearly implies research and development if not industrialization efforts and is often complex and risky. A new product has to find a market and be made known to potential buyers, which is always a difficult stage in a highly competitive environment. About 30% of innovations disappear in less than a year and 70% within 3 years (source TNS Scanel)
The objective of this competition is to provide the winners with the additional assets to successfully complete this stage, by putting them in contact with their potential clients, by offering them channels to communicate on their products, by providing technical assistance for business projects. This action falls within the framework of Cervia’s mission to assist companies in their innovation projects from upstream farming to distribution.
The competition finalists (maximum 4 files per prize) will be selected on the merits of the file by the organizing committee based on an evaluation grid prepared by Agro ParisTech and Nutrimarketing.
An evaluation jury (composed of a representative from the OSEO Innovation steering committee, buyers, journalists from the regional trade and general press, a chef, a strategy consultant) will award the prizes to the winners at the beginning of June 2008, using a product tasting protocol prepared by ISHA.
The “fitness and well-being” prize will reward innovations relating to nutritional benefits (products with low salt, fats and sugar, rich in vitamins, minerals, etc.) or, for example, products designed for use by people with allergies.
