The toll booth with magnetic cards at the entrance to Rungis Market was introduced on 16 June 1969 and was installed at the five main entrances. Previously, the control was done manually and every visitor had to pay an entrance fee amounting to 2 Francs (roughly €0.30). The entrances opened by means of a system with magnetic, coded cards which had several tracks to identify the cardholder and permit access at the green light. The card contained a specific number of points representing the number of authorized entries and one point disappeared from the card with each entry. Once all the points were used up, the card had to be renewed. 40,000 cards were therefore sold on the basis of 80 entries each.
