Dominique Monloup

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Monloup S.A. (fruit and vegetables)

A recognized professional, Dominique Monloup follows his credo: the highest quality produce for optimal customer satisfaction...

« The strength of Rungis lies in the balance between complementarity and competition… »

Dominique Monloup (48 years old) has followed in the footsteps of his father Michel and his grandfather Raoul, who, back in 1927, created the company at the former Halles de Paris before it was transferred to Rungis in 1969.

“I’ve always been around fruit and vegetables, and I learnt all the tricks of the trade from my family. I joined my father in 1978 after completing business studies, thus becoming the third generation of fruit and vegetable traders in the family. Back then, we had ten or so lorries crossing France and Europe, so I started out as lorry driver. I then switched to sales… and took over management of the company about ten years ago. I am fully committed to the profession. I belong to the administrative council of the CSCGFL (French Association of Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers) for Rungis, as well as the union (UNCGFL – French Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Wholesaler Traders). For the last five years, our company has focused on its core business: as market- based specialist wholesaler. I haven't forgotten what I learned from my father and grandfather; the entrepreneurial spirit, dynamism, the desire to be the best… We also aim to be a modern company by the way we operate, our working tools, our management.

Accordingly, our staff has been trained to be independent and autonomous, and we have set up a competition watch to be able to diversify our product offer to our customers. We are constantly responding to the market, and our priority goals are to keep working towards total customer satisfaction, and to stay competitive throughout the year. We are looking for opportunities to build on our potential, while maintaining our skills base and know-how. Competition does not mean war; market laws continue to prevail... The team as a whole (a workforce of 28) deals with 12,500 tons of fruit and vegetables per year. The largest volumes are apples and pears (5,000 tons), peaches, apricots and nectarines (2,000 tons) and melons (2,000 tons). We have over 800 customers, including traditional retail traders, Cours des Halles, distribution centres, and some wholesalers from across France and abroad. Rungis is highly esteemed for its product offer and diversity. However, whether Rungis can progress will depend on the wholesalers having the will and the ability to adapt to new customer needs. The strength of Rungis lies in the balance between complementarity and competition”.
