"The Voremberg company has been flourishing for fifty years now, and is a well-known horticultural store at Rungis Market.
"It was created in 1958 in Gometz-la-Ville (Essonne) by Ernest Voremberg, the father of my husband, Pierre Voremberg. A former student at the Tremblay-sur-Mauldre horticultural college (Deux-Sévres), Pierre graduated with a CAP (trade proficiency certificate) and a BEP (certificate of vocational proficiency). As for myself, I come from Gometz-la-Ville and was born into a family of market gardeners. Following my baccalaureate and accounting studies, I went to work in the administrative department at the Paris Town Hall as at that time I had no particular vocation for working with plants.
My husband took over the company on the death of his father in 1966, and after our marriage in 1967, he asked me to join him in order to take on the administrative and management side of the business. Before arriving at Rungis Market in 1969, the Voremberg company sold its entire production at the Halles de Paris.
The company site covers a little over one hectare, including 2,000 m2 under glass and a large area under plastic tunnels. In addition to open field chrysanthemums, cyclamens, azaleas, hyacinths and indoor plants were produced under glass. The company then decided to diversify by specialising in plant assemblies and floral compositions.
Pierre died in November 2002; he was an outstanding professional unanimously acknowledged by his peers, and it is not easy to replace him and his exceptional charisma. I try to manage the company's development as best I can. I am supported by a twelve-strong team, with an equal number of men and women. Some of them have been with the company for twenty to thirty years and are as loyal as ever.
Our production concerns the forced growth of plants that are partly sourced in France and Holland. Our flagship products are cyclamens (15,500 units/year), poinsettias (14,000 units/year), geraniums (12,400 units/year), and New Guinea impatiens (10,000 units/year). Our customer base is divided equally between shop-based florists and self-service garden centres.
"Rungis is a wonderful showcase that gathers the very best of quality produce… " The market has a unique offer due to its range breadth and the exceptional quality of French flowers. Nevertheless, our sector needs to be boosted in order to regain a certain number of our customers who have chosen the Dutch delivery option … ".
