Pierre et Jean-François Canet

Alain Belpomme

“This has been a family business for a century,” says Pierre Canet, who runs Moreux Horticulture with his brother Jean-François. The story began with Leon Moreux, their grandfather, who was already a horticultural pioneer in Noisy-le-Roi in 1933. At the end of the 1970s, the two Canet brothers took over the business, without knowing anything about horticulture. Pierre is a graduate of ESSEC and his brother is a lawyer. The company went through a difficult period but they managed to weather it. Since then they have continued their grandfather’s work. The company built its reputation on azaleas, hydrangea and roses, which are still flagship products today. Their “big ship”, as Pierre Canet calls it, covers 2.5 hectares, all fully glazed and heated. Over 50 employees are on deck to keep things running smoothly. The company does 15% of its turnover at Rungis, while 5 vans handle daily deliveries within 150 km around Paris. “Our best clients are garden centres and traditional florists,” explains the joint manager of Moreux Horticulture. The activity also includes 4,000m² of plants for the trade and in the last 10 years the company has successfully gone into flower design.
