40 ansOur speech

The Rungis Market has changed a lot in 40 years, with professions and competencies encompassing new activities (logistics, transformation, packaging, services for clients), an expanded offer that is adapted to consumer needs and diversification into new markets (catering, local and overseas exports, etc.)

Rungis has gone from a traditional wholesale market with a local clientele to an international hub.

Over time, the Market has also become a powerful brand, solidly founded on the basic values it has managed to preserve and enrich.
These are all the characteristics of real brands that have meaning.
In a complex environment undergoing major transformations (global trade; reorganization of sectors and concentration of players; pressures at the sourcing level; fall in consumption; changing lifestyles, distribution systems and legal frameworks, etc.), we must never cease convincing our “concerned parties”, such as our suppliers, clients, consumers, politicians, partners and, of course, our employees. Uniting, mobilizing, rewarding, drawing on the past to better secure the future, this is the ambitious project that justifies such an event.

3 commitments

  • Creating a 40th anniversary signature as the common thread for all actions organized for the occasion. Developing a sticker based on this signature.

  • Preparing a simple, pragmatic communication system to promote image and trade, over the long term.

  • Putting people at the system’s core because they have been responsible for Rungis’ success, by passing their passion for the product from generation to generation.

“Rungis - Fresh Produce Capital of the World” events signature

40 ans Rungis
  • A signature that places the Rungis brand in the same rank as a nation’s capital because it is a genuine benchmark both in France and abroad, thanks to its know-how and quality expertise.

  • An ‘umbrella’ concept to deploy the communication system so we can involve all targets.

  • A unifying concept that conveys our values.

  • By portraying Rungis as a city in its own right – with its values, codes, functioning – we show that the Market is a place for life, exchanges and passion.

40 ans Rungis

3rd of March 1969 : Rungis Market opens, putting an end to the “move of the century”
- 20 000 people, 1 000 wholesale companies, 10 000 m3 of equipment, 5 000 tons of produce, on board 1 500 lorries! This is the end of 800 years of business in central Paris (see the chronology).

This symbolic anniversary date will be enthusiastically celebrated like a “family celebration” at our events centre (L’Espace Rungis). The managing directors of the tenant companies will therefore be able to invite their employees, customers and suppliers to an exceptional night to remember, with a fine dining meal followed by an exclusive show from the Crazy Horse, the 4th outside the home theatre and the 2nd in France since the creation of this world-known Cabaret in 1951). Several of the most famous performances from “Forever Crazy” will be shown! This show has been created by Philippe Decouflé, who was the choreographer of the launching ceremony for the winter Olympic Games of Albertville in 1992.

In the context of the celebration of this anniversary, March will also be very dynamic in terms of business promotion, in the meat market buildings and in the dairy and delicatessen market buildings. This event will be known as “La Fête du Frais” (a celebration of freshness).

The logistics which is an essential part of Rungis Market’s performance is represented by a customized lorry positioned on the main roundabout of the Market. Decorated according to the bright colours used for the celebration year, it is lent by our partner, Petit Forestier.

Petit Forestier, main partner of the 40th anniversary of Rungis.

Petit Forestier will be the exclusive partner of Rungis for the van and truck rental business during the whole year of celebration.

It will be responsible for:

  • Lending a customized lorry exhibited on the main roundabout of the Market between mid-January and mid-March 2009

Interview: Yves Forestier, CEO

40 ans Rungis

A few words about Petit Forestier and its set up at Rungis

Today, Petit Forestier has 136 sites in Europe, among which 15 located within wholesale markets. In the Ile de France region, five of our locations are within Rungis Market’s perimeter, 3 inside the market and 2 just outside. These locations are strategic for Petit Forestier because of the relevance of our offer of refrigerated vans and lorry with full service for the Market’s customers. This proximity enables us to answer our customers’ needs, either in terms of service – maintenance, cleaning... – or availability for short or long run periods. From the very beginning Petit Forestier has made the choice of this proximity with its customers; our set up at Rungis was therefore obvious!

Why Petit Forestier has decided to be a partner of Rungis for its anniversary ?

Our company, because of its specialization in refrigerated vehicles, has always been located on the French capital’s wholesale markets: Les Halles, La Villette and later Rungis. After setting up our headquarters in Villepinte in North Paris, our Rungis agency was our second location to open in Ile de France, in 1983. This historical proximity has enabled us to grow alongside Rungis Market’s own development, because we have the same profile of customers. The seventies also represent the move from La Villette for our group, with the relocation of the meat market to Rungis, and a new stage in our development with the signature of long-term rental agreements for refrigerated vehicles. Following the 100 years of Petit Forestier, it seemed natural for us to be at the forefront of this event which puts forward the success of 40 years of hard work.
